Arabic Vocab privacy
Updated 23 October 2026 for version 1.1: Android and iOS include Google AdMob advertising. The Arabic Vocab web app has no ads. Learning progress and notebook contents remain on your device. Advertising uses network access and processes the data described below.
The app stores your chosen name, learning path, settings, answers counted, recent question fingerprints used to vary practice, recently missed words (listed in your notebook as Words to remember), lesson mastery, words met, whether you study all words or only Qur’anic words, your journey starting point, introductions and explored lessons, revision lessons, XP, milestones (badges), daily results, and any handwritten or typed notes you choose to save in your notebook, locally on your device. Unfinished writing may also be kept locally as an unfinished note (a recovery draft) when storage is available. If your saved progress cannot be read, the app keeps a copy of it, unchanged, on the device; Notes → Backup & restore lets you download or remove it. There is no app account, cloud sync, purchase or subscription service. Your name, learning answers, notes and handwriting are not sent to us or to Google by the learning app. Advertising and consent requests are separate and are described below.
The native apps are ad-supported. Interstitial ads may appear when you choose to move on after a completed round, with no banners and no ads during questions. You can optionally watch a rewarded ad to pause interstitial breaks for 30 minutes. Every lesson remains free, and learning works without an internet connection. The app requests non-personalized ads and does not request access to the iOS advertising identifier through App Tracking Transparency.
Advertising and privacy choices
Google AdMob and its Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and share your IP address (which can be used to estimate general location), device or app identifiers, advertising interactions, crash logs and performance diagnostics for advertising, measurement, fraud prevention and security. Non-personalized ads still process data. Your learning profile and notebook are not supplied to the advertising SDK. We do not add a separate analytics or crash-reporting service.
Google’s User Messaging Platform checks consent requirements before the app initializes advertising or requests ads. Where required, a privacy form explains your choices. Google restricted data processing is enabled for every native ad request. On iOS, publisher first-party identifiers are disabled and the app does not request access to IDFA. If consent cannot be established, learning continues without ad requests. You can reopen available choices in Settings → Ad privacy choices. Google’s privacy policy and advertising information describe its data practices and controls.
Android declares internet access, and the advertising SDK adds network-state and advertising-related permissions through its manifest. Haptics use vibration, which you can turn off. Neither app asks for your camera, microphone, precise location, contacts, photos or notifications. The app stores the expiry of an earned ad-free period locally. Uninstalling or clearing storage can remove that setting.
Settings offers an optional test report, kept on the device, for people testing the app with learners. Recording is off by default. When enabled, it keeps aggregate round counts, answer and hint counts, active time on questions and first-answer timing locally, with at most 31 daily summaries. It does not record names, identifiers, question text, note contents or handwriting, and sends nothing to a server. You can stop recording, clear the report, or explicitly export it as a JSON file. Sharing an exported report through another app only happens when you choose a destination.
Your name is optional. Please avoid entering sensitive personal information. Use Settings → Reset all progress to erase learning progress, and any kept copy of unreadable progress, from this device. Notebook notes and unfinished notes are kept separately; open Notes to edit or delete individual saved notes. Discard unfinished changes, or choose Keep current when an unfinished note is offered, to remove that unfinished note. Clearing browser storage or uninstalling may also remove progress, notes and drafts, depending on platform backup settings.
The Android and iOS apps include every word, illustration and font, and work offline from the first launch. The website caches its files for offline use after a full online load; your hosting provider receives the normal requests made when you load the website. Your learning profile, notebook and unfinished notes stay on the device. The links to tanzil.net and the licence in Settings → Credits open in your browser, only when you tap them. The app does not request notification permissions.
Sharing is optional and only happens when you tap Share my progress and choose where to send it. It shares an image made on the device: the number of words you have met, how many are words of the Qur’an, and your level. Your name is on it only if you leave “Put my name on it” switched on. It never includes your answers, notes or a date.
Backup & restore exports a JSON file containing your saved notes, handwriting and question references. Unfinished notes are not included. Importing a backup reads the selected file locally and keeps your existing notes if versions conflict. A browser download or the native system share sheet lets you choose where to keep the backup. Importing does not upload it; sharing through another app only happens when you choose that destination.
Word illustrations are bundled with the app and credited in the app. The app contains no read-aloud, audio recordings or sound effects. This privacy description applies to version 1.1 with advertising. Development tests may use Google demo ads, which do not generate revenue. Release builds use the publisher’s live ad units.
